About
Diego Latruwe (b. 1990, Knokke-Heist, Belgium) is a multidisciplinary artist based in Ghent, Belgium,
working across sculpture, painting, printmaking, and video.
Latruwe’s practice is defined by the interplay between traditional artistic forms and contemporary digital
processes. His assemblages, oil-paintings and digital animations occupy a space between still life and landscape,
presenting carefully constructed compositions that evoke lush, ruin-like environments.
Drawing equally from art history and the things that surround us in our daily lives,
these densely detailed scenes are built from layers of collected fragments that are continuously rearranged,
distorted and reinterpreted. Collected objects are first translated into digital form through 3D-scanning, before being
recombined, reconfigured and returned to the physical world through 3D-printing, painting and printmaking.
Passing repeatedly between digital and material states, these fragments gradually lose their original
associations. Familiar objects become ambiguous relics through successive layers of paint, etching and digital patina,
blurring the distinction between the digital image and the physical object.
